EQUIPMENT
I carry a quite a bit of equipment when I go exploring. The equipment falls into one
of two categories; my camera equipment and my general exploring equipment.
Camera equipment
I now use a Nikon D80 DSLR for the majority of my photographs having moved on
from a Fujifilm S9500 and an Olympus C310 before that. With this I use a AF-S DX
18-135 mm f/3.5-5.6G IF-ED lens together with a Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 EX DC
HSM wide angle lens. I also sometimes carry a SB400 flashgun.
My camera equipment wouldn't be complete without one of my trusty tripods. I have
both a Manfrotto 785B Modo tripod and a Velbon mini. A tripod is an absolute
necessity when taking long exposures in dark places or at night.
General exploring equipment
As well as the camera equipment above, I carry torches...lots of torches. These
come in various sizes and power and are invaluable when working in dark
dangerous areas or for light painting a dark scene during a long exposure shot. I
have a torch for almost every use, small Maglites, medium sized torches, head
torches and larger D cell Maglites.
I also always carry a P3 rated respirator to cover my nose and mouth when
exploring places where there may be asbestos dust or pigeon droppings. Another
neccessity(in my eyes anyway) is a first aid kit backed up by a military field
dressing. Hopefully i'll never need to use it but its best to prepare for the worst. All
my kit is carried safely in my Tamrac Adventure 6 rucksack.
Lastly, I always take food and drink especially lots of fruit pastilles. !!!!
